Ocean Chlorophyll
Description
Ocean Chlorophyll provides near-surface concentration of chlorophyll-a (mg/m3) at the ocean surface. The concentration of chlorophyll is related to the population of phytoplankton in the oceans which is used in global carbon cycle models, fisheries research, biomass distribution, and oceanic primary production.
Ocean Chlorophyll concentration is calculated using the ocean chlorophyll 2-band algorithm. This algorithm utilizes the blue/green band ratio to inform a statistical model based on in situ observations (O’Reilly et al, 1998).
