Exploring Feature Summaries
Getting Started
To explore feature summaries in Climate Engine, first you need to navigate to the ‘Make Map’ tab and select ‘Feature Summaries’ visualization layer type.
Once you select ‘Feature Summaries’, new dropdowns will populate for ‘Feature Type’ and ‘Features’.
Feature Type: 'Feature' data over selected areas of interest. Select the type of Feature that you would like to make using this dropdown. For example, you may be interested in US BLM regions.
Features: Select the 'Features' that you would like to map. For example, for BLM land units there are Grazing Allotment, Field Offices, District Offices, and State Offices available.
Once you select a ‘Feature Type’, associated ‘Features’ options will be populated. You can then select ‘Features’ of interest and move to the product selections section.
Product Selections for Choropleth Requests
For the ‘feature summaries’ functionality, selecting your product first requires selecting a product type from amongst: “Climate” and “Remote Sensing”.
Next, you will be prompted to select from a curated list of datasets. Selecting the yellow (?) next to ‘Dataset’ will take you to that dataset’s information page on the Climate Engine Support site. By selecting a dataset, the available variables will be populated in the ‘Variable’ dropdown.
Finally for this section, you can select a variable of interest from a curated list of variables.. Selecting the yellow (?) next to ‘Variable’ will take you to that variable’s/metric’s information page on the Climate Engine Support site. Once you select a variable, you can move to the ‘Processing’ section.
Processing Options for Choropleth Requests
The ‘Calculation and Time Period’ dropdown will be populated with available options once the ‘Variable’ is selected. Selection options may include current, 10-yr trend, 20-yr trend, 30-yr trend, period of record trend, percent of average, and difference form average.
Once you select a ‘Calculation and Time Period’, you can click ‘Get Map Layer’. You can click on individual polygons to get the polygon name and variable value.
