Tutorial on Creating a Table Asset from a Shape File

Creating a Table Asset from a Shapefile

Step 1: Get a Google Earth Engine account - apply here

Step 2: Log into the Google Code Editor-  go here

Step 3: Import a shape file to the Asset Manager - follow these directions from GEE. Note that Climate Engine can only load the most simple of shape files, where there is only 1 level of names for the geography boundaries. Multiple levels in the structure of the shape file will not work in Climate Engine.

Using a Table Asset in the Climate Engine App

Step 4: Make your table asset public by setting sharing permissions -  follow these directions

Step 5: Retrieve the id of your table asset (i.e. users/username/yourTableAssetName). Note that you should not be entering a path that starts with project/climate-engine/..., as these are owned by the username=climate-engine.

Step 6: Go to Climate Engine's 'Make Graph' tab and choose a Region of 'Custom Polygon from Table Asset'.

Step 7: In the window that is revealed, enter your table asset id.

Step 8: The polygons from your table should be loaded on the map in Climate Engine and you should be able to select a polygon from the dropdown.

Troubleshooting: If your table asset will not load in Climate Engine, either the path is not correct or the table asset is too large and/or complicated. In the latter case, either reduce the size of the asset or simplify the geometries in the asset.
